New Year's Wish
This tutorial was written by me on December 22, 2023. The results are of my own imagination. Any resemblance to another tutorial is purely coincidental.
Please DO NOT claim this tutorial as your own.
This was written assuming you have a working knowledge of PS.
Please keep in mind that I write the tutorial as I am creating it.
Sometimes I may not explain properly where to place things so please see my example if you are ever in doubt :)
Supplies needed
I am using Adobe Photoshop 2024
but this tutorial should work with any version.
You can download the 7 day trial of PS here.
PTU Tube: I am using Katharine's beautiful multi layered tube "New Year's Wish". Please do not use this tube without a proper license. You can purchase it here.
PTU Kit: I am using a gorgeous kit called "New Years Resolutions" created by Doodle by Design. You can purchase her beautiful kit here.
Font of choice for your name. I am using New Year's Highlight which you can purchase here.
Plug in: None
Drop shadow of choice.
Please read all the Artist's/Designer's TOU.
To open an image, I click on the element or paper in the file folder and drag it into PS.
To transfer an element or paper in PS to my tag, I left click and drag it into my working canvas.
The other way is to left click and drag the element from the folder right onto your tag.
Either way you will get the same results but the resizing will be different :). I will be using the both method for this tutorial.
For resizing and rotating I use the Ctrl+T command.
To mirror or Flip go to Edit>Transform>Flip Horizontal (mirror) or Flip vertical (Flip).
Remember to save often.
Let's get started.
Open a new 800x800 transparent image. We will resize later.
Go to layers, New fill layer, solid color. When the pop up window appears type in FFFFFF and click ok.
Drag element 132 onto the working canvas. Resize 70% and move to the far left. Duplicate, mirror and flip the duplicate. Move to the far right.
Standing on the original element 132 layer, drag paper 1 onto the canvas. Resize 54% and move over element 132 so the paper covers it. Click the check mark. Standing on the paper layer, right click and select create a clipping mask. Select the duplicate layer. This time drag paper 6 onto the canvas. Resize 70%, move over the element and click the check mark. Right click and select create a clipping mask.
Drag element 133 into the tag. Resize 18% and move to the top right.
Drag element 60 into the tag. Resize 16% and move to the top center.
Drag element 61 into the tag. Resize 14% and move to the lower right of element 60.
Drag element 103 into the tag. Resize 40% and move to the lower left of the original element 132.
Drag element 98 into the tag. Resize 30% and move to the lower left of element 103.
Drag frame 2 into the tag. Resize 30% and move to the left of the clock. Drag paper 11 into the tag. Resize 65% and move this layer under the frame. Using your magic wand, click inside each of the large openings of the frame. Select, modify, expand by 3. Standing on the paper layer, go to Layers, layer mask, reveal selection.
Standing on the paper layer, drag element 129 into the tag. Move into a spot you like best inside the frame. Once happy with placement, hold down the alt key, click on the mask thumbnail from the paper layer and drag it up to the firework element. You should now have two masks. One on the paper layer and one on the fireworks.
Select the frame layer.
Drag element 27 into the tag. Resize 29% and move to the bottom left of the frame.
Drag element 130 into the tag. Resize 50% and mirror. Move to the top left of the frame.
Drag element 45 into the tag. Resize 38% and move to the top left of the frame.
Drag element 46 into the tag. Resize 35%, mirror and move to the top right of the frame.
Drag element 126 into the tag. Resize 17% and move to the top left of the frame.
Drag wordart 3 into the tag. Hit Ctrl + T and type -90 degrees in the rotate section of the top tool bar, just past the H. Move over the frame.
Drag element 70 into the tag. Resize 15%, mirror and move to the bottom right of the frame.
Drag element 57 into the tag. Resize 11% and move to the bottom center of the frame.
Drag element 84 into the tag. Move to the bottom of the frame and piano.
Drag element 98 into the tag. Resize 23% and move to the bottom left of the bottle.
Drag element 132 into the tag. Resize W 82% and H 18.55% and move to the bottom of the tag. See mine for placement.
Drag element 65 into the tag. Resize 10% and move to the bottom left of the piano.
Open your tube in PS. Select the layers you would like to use and group them (Ctrl + G). Using your move tool, make sure the all layers box is not checked in the top tool bar, drag your group into the tag. Right click on the group and select Convert to Smart object. Resize 25%, mirror and move to the right side of the frame. See mine for placement.
Drag element 96 into the tag. Resize 19% and move to the bottom left of the bottle.
Drag element 28 into the tag. Resize 30% and move to the bottom center of the tube.
Drag element 64 into the tag. Resize 7.35% and move to the bottom of the element 96.
Drag wordart 1 into the tag. Resize 60% and move over the cake layer.
Drag element 38 into the tag. Resize 19% and move to the bottom left of the lower mask.
Drag element 33 into the tag. Resize 15% and move to the bottom right of the bottle.
Drag element 49 into the tag. Resize 6% and move to the bottom left of the bottle.
Drag element 63 into the tag. Resize 6% and move to the bottom right of the cake.
Drag element 71 into the tag. Resize 5% and move to the bottom left of the cake.
Drag element 72 into the tag. Resize 4% and move to the bottom right of the new year hat.
Drag element 58 into the tag. Resize 3% and move to the bottom left of the pig.
Drag element 3 into the tag. Resize 15% and move to the bottom right of the presents.
Drag element 59 into the tag. Resize 4% and move to the bottom right of the shoes.
Drag element 62 into the tag. Resize 4% and move to the bottom right of the teddy.
Drag element 41 into the tag. Resize 37% and move to the bottom left of the teddy.
Drag element 21 into the tag. Resize 13% and move to the bottom left of element 41.
Drag element 14 into the tag. Resize 5% and move to the bottom of the teddy.
Drag element 5 into the tag. Resize 5% and move to the bottom right of element 14.
Drag element 10 into the tag. Resize 9% and move to the bottom right of the top hat.
Drag element 8 into the tag. Resize 8%, rotate -19.11 degrees and move to the bottom of the hats.
Drag element 23 into the tag. Resize 14% and move to the bottom right of element 62.
Add any other elements you like and make any adjustments to the layers.
Crop away any extra space.
Image, Image Size and resize 650 on the longest side if needed.
Oh almost forgot we need to drop shadow all of our elements. I actually do the drop shadow at the end :)
Select the element on the bottom of your tag in the layer pallet and double click it.
A layer style window will pop up. Click on Drop shadow. and use the following settings.
Click on image to enlarge it to view it better.
Now right click on the layer you just applied the drop shadow. Click copy layer style.
Now click on the layer above and hold down the shift key, select the layer under the paper layer. Right click and paste layer styles.
Select the firework layer, holding down the shift key, select layer 98. Right click and paste layer styles.
Select element 65 layer, holding down the shift key, select the top layer. Right click and paste layer styles.
Drop shadow complete :)
I also added a stroke to the wordart layers. Word art 3 I added a stroke of 1 outside in black.
Click on image to view better.
Wordart 1 I added a stroke with the following settings:
Click on image to view better.
Add your copyright and name.
Hide the white background layer and export as png.
I hope you have enjoyed my tutorial. I would love to see your results.
