Irish Spirit
This tutorial was written by me on February 29, 2016. The results are of my own imagination. Any resemblance to another tutorial is purely coincidental.
Please DO NOT claim this tutorial as your own.
This was written assuming you have working knowledge of PSP.
Please keep in mind that I write the tutorial as I am creating it.
Supplies needed
I am using PSP X6 but this tutorial should work with any version.
Animation shop (Optional)
PTU Tube: I am using a gorgeous tube created by Elias Chatzoudis.
Please do not use his tubes without a proper licence. I purchased mine through PTE.
You can purchase this beauty at CDO here.
FTU Kit: I am using Feeling Lucky by HorsePlay Pastures. You can download this gorgeous kit here.
Mask: Vix St. Paticks Day Mask 2. You can get it here. Just right click on the mask and save to your computer. Open in psps and minimize.
Font of choice for your name
FTU Animation: I am using Sophisticat Simone's awesome St. Patrick's animation 289 which you can get here.
I am using a drop shadow of V/H 3, Opacity 50, blur 5, color black through out the tutorial unless otherwise stated.
Open a new 600x600 transparent image.
Open element 14, copy and close the original. Paste as a new layer and resize 80% all layers not checked.
Using your magic wand with the following settings:
Click inside the frame. Selections - Modify - Expand by 5.
Open paper of choice. I am using paper 13, copy and close the original. Paste as a new layer. Selections - invert and standing on the paper layer, hit delete on your keyboard. Select none. Drop shadow the frame. Move the paper layer under the frame layer.
Copy your main tube and paste as a new layer. Resize 80% and then Adjust - Sharpness - Sharpen. Drop shadow.
Open element 19, copy and close the original. Select the frame layer and paste. Resize 70% and move to the bottom center. See mine for placement. Drop shadow.
Open element 47, copy and close the original. Select the top layer and paste. Resize 70% and move to the bottom center so it looks like your tube is kneeling on the R in spirit. See mine for placement. Drop shadow.
Open element 16, copy and close the original. Select raster 1 and paste. Move to the far right. See mine for placement. Duplicate and mirror.
Open element 45, copy and close the original. Select your tube layer and paste Resize 70% and move under the word art. See mine for placement. Drop shadow.
Open element 29, copy and close the original. Select the scatter layer and paste. Resize 50% and move to the bottom left beside the S in the word art. See mine for placement. Drop shadow.
Open element 30, copy and close the original. Select the tube layer and paste. Resize 50% and move to the far bottom left. See mine for placement. Drop shadow.
Open element 39, copy and close the original. Select the frame layer and paste. Resize 50% and move up and slightly to the right. You should be able to see the wording between the hat and pot of gold on your tube. Drop shadow.
Open element 15, copy and close the original. Select the frame layer and paste. Resize 70% and move to the right (see mine for placement). Duplicate and mirror.
Open element 26, copy and close the original. Select the tube layer and paste. Resize 50%. Adjust - Sharpness - Sharpen. Move to the bottom right in behind the IT and drop shadow.
Open paper of choice. I am using paper 12, copy and close the original. Select raster 1 and paste. Layers - New Mask Layer - From image. In the drop down find Vix St Patty day mask 2 - Source luminance selected - Invert unchecked. Click ok and merge group.
Add your copyright and name. If you are not going to animate, save as png.
Animation:
Select raster 1 and flood fill with white.
Now we need to hide everything from the tube layer and up by clicking on the eye beside each layer.
Edit - Copy Special - Copy merged and paste as new animation in animation shop (ctrl + v)
As Simone's animation has 20 frames we need to have 20 frames for our background that we just pasted. You should still have the background in your memory. Click on your background so it is highlighted. It will have blue around the frame. Hold ctrl + Shift and tap the L 19 times. You should now have 20 frames. You can see how many frames you have in the bottom right corner.
Select Simone's Animation, Select all ctrl + a and copy ctrl + c.
Back to the background animation. Select all ctrl + a and now we need to paste into selected frames ctrl + E. The animation will be hanging off your mouse. Place the animation on top of the pot of gold but on the right side. See screen shot below. Left click when you have it in the spot you want. If you make an error just hit ctrl + z. Now we need the animation on top of the left side of the pot of gold. We are going to repeat the paste into select frames ctrl + e and now place the animation on the left side and left click when happy with placement. See my screen shot below.
You can close off Simone's animation as we no longer need it.
Back to psp. Close off the open layers by clicking on the eye next to each layer including the white background layer. And make the top layers visible again from the tube layer up by clicking on the eye next to each layer.
Important as we need the animation all the same size. Select all. Edit - Copy special - Copy merged.
Back to animation shop and paste as new animation. ctrl + v. We will need 20 frames so holding down the ctrl + shift tap the L 19 times. You should now have 20 frames.
Select all ctrl + a and copy ctrl + e. Back to the background animation, select all ctrl + a and paste into select frames ctrl + e. Move the top portion of your tag until you find a spot you like then left click.
View your animation by clicking on the film icon next to the arrow with the ?. Once happy with your animation. Save as GIF
Click on save as, name your tag, and the options box will pop up after you click ok. Click in customize and the optimization tab. Only the 3 middle boxes should be selected. Click next, next, next and finished.

Please keep in mind that I write the tutorial as I am creating it.
Sometimes I may not explain properly where to place things so please see my example if you are ever in doubt :)
Supplies needed
I am using Adobe Photoshop 2021 but this tutorial should work with any version.

PTU Tube: I am using Barbara Jensen's beautiful tube "Every last drop" from her new package 123. Please do not use this tube without a proper license. I am using the layered tube for this tutorial. You can purchase Barbara Jensen's tube at Barbara's store here.
PTU Kit: I am using a gorgeous kit called "Breezy Briar" created by Pink Paradox Productions. This kit is available for purchase at Barbara's store here.
PTU Animation: I am using Kiya Designs awesome animation from packs 94 and 95. You can purchase her animations at Barbara Jensen's store here.
Mask: 962 by Rachel Designs. You can download it from her blog here.
You will also need mask 78 by Vivienne's Paintbox. You can download it from her blog here.
I am using the png version for this tutorial. Thank you for your awesome masks.

Drop shadow of choice.
Please read all the Artist's/Designer's TOU.
To open an image, I click on the element or paper in the file folder and drag it into PS.
To transfer an element or paper in PS to my tag, I left click and drag it into my working canvas.
The other way is to left click and drag the element from the folder right onto your tag.
Either way you will get the same results :). I will be using the both method for this tutorial.
For resizing and rotating I use the Ctrl+T command.
To mirror or Flip go to Edit, Transform, Flip Horizontal (mirror) or Flip vertical (Flip).
Remember to save your tag often in case PS crashes. I always save my tags as a psd image. It keeps all the layers and if you make tags for others you will always have the template.
Let's get started.
Open a new 800x800 transparent image. We will resize later.
Go to layers, New fill layer, solid color. When the pop up window appears type in FFFFFF and click ok.
Drag Rachel's mask into the tag. Resize 128% and move to the top right of the canvas. Duplicate, mirror and move to the lower left of the canvas.
Hold down the Ctrl key and select the original mask layer. Right click and merge layers.
Drag paper 48 into the tag. Click the check mark.
Standing on the paper layer, right click the layer and create a clipping mask.
Drag element 174 into the tag. Resize 210% and move to the top left of the mask.
Drag element 131 into the tag. Resize 65% and move to the left of the tree. Duplicate and move to the right of the tree.
Drag element 163 into the tag. Resize 74% and move over the tree.
Drag element 146 into the tag. Resize 75% and move to the bottom of the trees.
Drag element 168 into the tag. Resize 33% and move to the top left of element 146.
Drag element 9 into the tag. Resize 25% and move to the top right of the trees.
Drag element 134 into the tag. Resize 43% and move to the bottom left of element 146.
Drag element 139 into the tag. Resize 39% and move to the bottom center of element 146. See my example for placement.
Drag element 98 into the tag. Resize 64% and move over the tree.
Drag element 166 into the tag. Resize 43% and move to the bottom left of the house.
Drag element 101 into the tag. Resize 48% and move to the left side of the house.
Drag element 165 into the tag. Resize 54% and move to the bottom of element 166.
Drag element 5 into the tag. Resize 55% and move onto the bottom pond.
Drag Vivienne's mask 78 into the tag. Resize 37% and move to the bottom of the pond. Duplicate the mask and move down and slightly to the right.
Duplicate the mask one more time and move down and slightly to the right. Holding down the Ctrl key, select each of the mask layers. Right click on the masks in the layer pallet and merge layers.
Drag paper 48 into the tag. Click the check mark. Right click on the paper layer and create a clipping mask.
Drag element 77 into the tag. Resize 60% and move to the top of the pond. See my example for placement.
Drag element 103 into the tag. Resize 36% and move to the bottom of the pond. See my example for placement.
Drag element 64 into the tag. Resize 35% and move to the bottom of the rock. See my example for placement.
Drag element 2 into the tag. Resize 26% and move to the bottom of the rock. See my example for placement.
Drag element 177 into the tag. Resize 60% and move to the right of mask. See my example for placement.
Drag element 59 into the tag. Resize 37% and move to the bottom of the tree stump. See my example for placement.
Drag element 167 into the tag. Resize 39% and move to the top of the tree stump. See my example for placement.
Drag element 161 into the tag. Resize 51% and move to the bottom right of the chest.
Select the layers you would like to use on your tube by clicking on the eyeball to make the layers visible.
Click on the eyeball of a visible layer to hide it. Holding down the Ctrl key, Select each visible layer.
Once all layers are selected hit Ctrl+G on your keyboard to group the layer. Select your move tool and select group 1.
Drag this into your tag. You can close the original and do not save the changes.
Standing on group 1 in the layer pallet, right click and convert to smart object. Your group layers are now one single layer.
Hit Ctrl+T on the keyboard and click on the link between the H & W. Resize 55% and move to the bottom of the mask. See my example for placement.
Drag element 63 into the tag. Resize 30% and move to the bottom of the tube.
Drag element 81 into the tag. Resize 32% and move to the bottom left of the rock.
Drag element 155 into the tag. Resize 71% and move to the bottom of the globe.
Drag element 171 into the tag. Resize 50% and move to the bottom left of the tube.
Drag element 18 into the tag. Resize 45% and move to the bottom of the tube.
Drag element 122 into the tag. Resize 36% and move to the bottom of the tall grass.
Drag element 121 into the tag. Resize 22% and move to the bottom of the white flowers.
Drag element 73 into the tag. Resize 36% and move to the bottom left of the blue flowers.
Drag element 86 into the tag. Resize 44% and move to the bottom right of the water pump.
Drag element 4 into the tag. Resize 40% and move to the bottom right of the mask.
Drag element 172 into the tag. Resize 32% and move to the bottom right of the lantern.
Add any other elements you like and make any adjustments to the layers.
Crop away any extra space.
Image, Image Size and resize 650 on the longest side. See my settings below.
Oh almost forgot we need to drop shadow all of our elements.
Select the element on the bottom of your tag in the layer pallet and double click it.
A layer style window will pop up. Click on Drop shadow. and use the following settings.
Now right click on the layer you just applied the drop shadow. Click copy layer style.
Now click on the layer above and hold down the shift key, click on the layer just under Vivienne's mask. Right click and paste layer style.
Now click on the layer above the paper layer of Vivienne's mask, hold down the shift key, click on the top layer. Right click and paste layer style. Drop shadow complete :)
Add your copyright and name.
Select the tube layer. Right click and duplicate. On the duplicate, right click and clear layer style. Go to Filter, Blur, Gaussian blur set to 3 and click ok.
If you do not want to animate. Hide the white background layer Save your tag and export as png.
Might want to grab a coffee :)
Open Kiya Designs 289 psd file in PS. You will notice that there is 24 layers in this animation and it does not have the group layer. That is ok as we are going to learn how to do this.
We need to group all the layers. Starting from layer 23, hold down your control key and select each layer so the next one will be 21 then 19 etc. Once all the layers are selected (the layers will be highlighted in blue) we need to group them.
Go to Layers, Group layers or Ctrl+G on the keyboard. You will see group 1 folder at the top. Make sure Group 1 is selected.
Select the layer you would like the animation to be placed. I selected the chest layer.
Back to the animation. Click on Group 1 and drag it into your tag. Ctrl+T and resize 20%. Move to a spot you like best. I moved it over the chest. Rename this coins group.
Close the original animation and don't save changes.
Open Kiya Designs 292 psd file in PS. You will notice that there is 25 layers in this animation and it does not have the group layer. That is ok as we are going to learn how to do this. We need the same amount of frames as the animation above.
We need to group all the layers. Starting from layer 23, hold down your control key and select each layer so the next one will be 21 then 19 etc. Once all the layers are selected (the layers will be highlighted in blue) we need to group them.
Go to Layers, Group layers or Ctrl+G on the keyboard. You will see group 1 folder at the top. Make sure Group 1 is selected.
Select the layer you would like the animation to be placed. I selected the paper layer above the bottom mask.
Back to the animation. Click on Group 1 and drag it into your tag. Ctrl+T and resize 65%. Move to a spot you like best. I moved it over the top of the mask.
Close the original animation and don't save changes.
Now holding down the Ctrl key, click on the bottom mask thumbnail. You should see marching ants. Standing one the animation 292 group layer, go to Layers>Layer Mask>Reveal selections. Change the blend mode to soft light.
Click on the little white arrow beside Group 1 to expand it. Click on the eyeball of each layer to hide it but leave frame layer 1 visible. Click on the arrow beside group one to hide it as we do not want to accidentally make any changes.
Next make sure your Timeline viewer is open on the bottom of PS. I you do not see a row that has Timeline on the bottom, go to Windows, Timeline.
Select the drop down box in the center of the Timeline viewer. Select Create Frame Animations.
Next is animating.
Click on the little icon (four lines) at the right end of the animation screen then select make frames from layers.
You are going to see a big mess in the animation window but we are going to fix this.
Click on the first frame and click on the trash can in the animation window. Repeat this until you reach the first frame of the animation.
Now you should be at the first frame of the animation. Click on frame 13 and hit the trash can. Repeat for all the remaining frames. You should be left with 12 frames in the animation window. This is the amount of frames for our animation.
This next step is very important. Any changes you do from here you must be on frame 1 in the animation window. It will be highlighted in blue. Unless I state differently.
Go to the bottom of your tag in the layers pallet. Make sure you have animation frame 1 selected.
Click on the eyeball beside each layer to make it visible. For the white base layer you may have to click on it a couple of times to make it visible in all the animation frames. It's a Photoshop thing. Do not touch the group layer.
Only click on the eyeball beside Coin Group. This animation will not be visible yet. That is ok.
Here is where the fun begins and you will need to pay attention to which frames you are selecting as we need to make the second animation appear. I learned this trick from Rene Kunert. She has awesome animation tutorials.
I have the link to her site at the top of this tutorial.
Frame one should be highlighted in the timeline viewer. Duplicate this frame by clicking on the + beside the trashcan on the bottom left of the viewer.
You should have Frame two now highlighted. Expand the Coin group and click on they eyeball next to frame 1 of the coin animation.
Select frame 1 in the Timeline viewer and delete it by clicking on the trash can. You should not have 12 layers again with frame 1 highlighted.
Below is an the listing of which frame to select and which Coin animation layer to make visible by clicking on the eye.
Select the following:
Frame 2 - Coin animation layer 3.
Frame 3 - Coin animation layer 5.
Frame 4 - Coin animation layer 7.
Frame 5 - Coin animation layer 9.
Frame 6 - Coin animation layer 11.
Frame 7 - Coin animation layer 13.
Frame 8 - Coin animation layer 15.
Frame 9 - Coin animation layer 17.
Frame 10 - Coin animation layer 19.
Frame 11 - Coin animation layer 21.
Frame 12 - Coin animation layer 23.
Next, I want to slow down the animation. With the first frame selected in the animation window, hold down the shift key and click on frame 12. This will select all the frames.
Next, click on the little black arrow beside the 0 sec as we want to change the speed. A pop up window will appear.
I selected other and typed in 0.15 Sec. Now click on the play button to view the animation. Click on it again to stop it.
Click frame 1 again so we don't accidentally make any changes.
Now to save our tag as a gif.
Go to File>Export>Save for Web(Legacy).
A new pop up window will appear. Change the settings to my screen shot below. Click on the image to enlarge it if needed. Click save. My screen shot will look different but the settings are the same for animating.

Drag element 40 into the tag. Resize 60% and move to the lower right of the treehouse.
Drag element 17 into the tag. Resize 47% and move to the bottom left of the rock.
Drag element 61 into the tag. Resize 63% and move to the bottom right of the barrel.
Drag element 43 into the tag. Resize 35% and move to the bottom center of the rock. See my example for placement.
Drag element 63 into the tag. Click the checkmark and move to the bottom of the mask.
Drag element 125 into the tag. Resize 47% and move to the lower left of the rock.
Drag wordart 4 into the tag. Resize38% and move to the middle right of element 125.
Drag element 112 into the tag. Resize 51% and move to the bottom right of element 125.
Drag element 45 into the tag. Resize 60% and move to the bottom of element 125.
Drag element 56 into the tag. Resize 27% and move to the bottom right of the house.
Drag element 18 into the tag. Resize 23% and move to the bottom right of the beer.
Drag element 39 into the tag. Resize 31% and move to the bottom right of the whiskey sign.
Drag element 108 into the tag. Resize 18% and move to the bottom right of the rock.
Drag element 80 into the tag. Resize 30% and move to the bottom of the whiskey sign.
Drag element 19 into the tag. Resize 13% and move to the bottom left of the fiddle.
Drag element 69 into the tag. Resize 43% and move to the bottom right of the house.
Drag element 67 into the tag. Resize 16% and move to the bottom right of element 69.
Drag the main tube into the tag. Resize 30%, mirror and move to the left of the mask.
Note: If you would like to use the pot you will need to select both layers and group them. Once you have placed your tube, right click on the group and convert to smart object.
Drag element 65 into the tag. Resize 53% and move to the bottom of the tube.
Drag element 75 into the tag. Resize 40%, mirror and move to the bottom of the sign.
Drag element 117 into the tag. Resize 29% and move to the bottom right of the sign.
Drag element 83 into the tag. Resize 26% and move to the bottom left of the sign.
Drag element 36 into the tag. Resize 25% and move to the bottom of the mouse.
Add any other elements you like and make any adjustments to the layers.
Crop away any extra space.

I am going to use multiple animations for this tag.
Open Kiya's Keg psd file in PS. You will notice that there is 12 layers in this animation and it does not have the group layer. That is ok as we are going to learn how to do this.
We need to group all the layers. Starting from frame layer 12, hold down your control key and select frame layer 1.
Next we need to group these layers. Go to Layers, Group layers or Ctrl + G on the Keyboard. You will see group 1 folder at the top. Make sure Group 1 is selected.
Select the layer you would like the animation to be placed. I selected the barrel layer.
Back to the animation. Click on Group 1 and drag it into your tag. Ctrl+T and resize 10%. Move to the top of the barrel. Rename this group Keg Animations. Right click on the group and paste layer style.
Close the original animation and don't save changes.
Click on the little white arrow beside Group 1 to expand it. Click on the eyeball of each layer to hide it but leave frame layer 1 visible. Click on the arrow beside group one to hide it as we do not want to accidentally make any changes.
Open Kiya's Leprechaun psd file in PS. You will notice that there is 12 layers in this animation and it does not have the group layer. That is ok as we are going to learn how to do this.
We need to group all the layers. Starting from frame layer 12, hold down your control key and select frame layer 1.
Next we need to group these layers. Go to Layers, Group layers or Ctrl + G on the Keyboard. You will see group 1 folder at the top. Make sure Group 1 is selected.
Select the layer you would like the animation to be placed. I selected the Pot of gold layer.
Back to the animation. Click on Group 1 and drag it into your tag. Ctrl+T and resize 12%. Move to the top of the pot of gold. Rename this group Leprechaun Animations. Right click on the group and paste layer style.
Close the original animation and don't save changes.
Click on the little white arrow beside Group 1 to expand it. Click on the eyeball of each layer to hide it but leave frame layer 1 visible. Click on the arrow beside group one to hide it as we do not want to accidentally make any changes.
Open Kiya's Rainbow psd file in PS. You will notice that there is 12 layers in this animation and it does not have the group layer. That is ok as we are going to learn how to do this.
We need to group all the layers. Starting from frame layer 12, hold down your control key and select frame layer 1.
Next we need to group these layers. Go to Layers, Group layers or Ctrl + G on the Keyboard. You will see group 1 folder at the top. Make sure Group 1 is selected.
Select the layer you would like the animation to be placed. I selected the bottom tree layer.
Back to the animation. Click on Group 1 and drag it into your tag. Ctrl+T and resize 25% and mirror. Move to the top of the tree. Rename this group Rainbow Animations.
Close the original animation and don't save changes.
Click on the little white arrow beside Group 1 to expand it. Click on the eyeball of each layer to hide it but leave frame layer 1 visible. Click on the arrow beside group one to hide it as we do not want to accidentally make any changes.

In the center of the Timeline viewer, click the drop down and select Create Frame Animation.
Click on the little icon (four white lines) at the right end of the animation screen then select make frames from layers.
You are going to see a big mess in the animation window but we are going to fix this.
Click on the first frame and click on the trash can in the animation window. Repeat this until you reach the first frame of the animation.
Now you should be at the first frame of the animation. Click on frame 13 and hit the trash can. Repeat for all the remaining frames. You should be left with 12 frames in the animation window. This is the amount of frames for our animation.
This next step is very important. Any changes you do from here you must be on frame 1 in the Timeline viewer unless otherwise stated. It will be highlighted in blue.
Go to the bottom of your tag in the layers pallet. Make sure you have animation frame 1 selected.
Click on the eyeball beside each layer to make it visible. For the white base layer you may have to click on the eyeball a couple of times to make it visible in all the animation frames. It's a Photoshop thing.
Do not touch the Rainbow group layer. Only click on the eyeball beside the Leprechaun and Keg animations.
Select frame 1 in the Timeline and duplicate this frame by hitting the + beside the trashcan.
You should now be on Frame 2. Standing on Frame 2, expand the Leprechaun and Keg animation groups. Unhide Layer 1 in each group.
Select Frame 1 and delete it. You will now have 12 frames again. This next part is very important to follow the steps.
Select frame 2 in the Timeline. Now unhide frame 2 in the Leprechaun and Keg animation groups.
Select frame 3 in the Timeline. Now unhide frame 3 in the Leprechaun and Keg animation groups.
Select frame 4 in the Timeline. Now unhide frame 4 in the Leprechaun and Keg animation groups.
Repeat the above steps for all the remaining frames and animation layers.
Next, I want to slow down the animation. With the first frame selected, hold down the shift key and click on frame 12. This will select all the frames.
Next, click on the little black arrow beside the 0 sec as we want to change the speed. A pop up window will appear.
I selected 0.2 Sec. Now click on the play button to view the animation. Click on it again to stop it.
Click frame 1 again so we don't accidentally make any changes.
Now to save our tag as a gif.
Go to File>Export>Save for Web(Legacy).
A new pop up window will appear. Change the settings to my screen shot below. Click on the image to enlarge it if needed. Click save. My screen shot will look different but the settings are the same.
