The Mannequin

his tutorial was written by me on August 27, 2022. The results are of my own imagination.  Any resemblance to another tutorial is purely coincidental.

Please DO NOT claim this tutorial as your own.

This was written assuming you have a working knowledge of PSP.

Please keep in mind that I write the tutorial as I am creating it.

Sometimes I may not explain properly where to place things so please see my example if you are ever in doubt :)

Supplies needed

I am using PSP 2018 but this tutorial should work with any version.

Animation shop (optional)

PTU Tube:  I am using Kiya Design's gorgeous tube "The Mannequin".  You can get this beauty from her store here.
Do not use this tube without a proper license.

FTU Kit:  I am using a gorgeous kit called "All Steamed Up" created by Mizteeques.  Thank you for your awesome kits.  You can download it from Mizteeque's blog here.

PTU Animation:  I am using Kiya Designs awesome animation 298 from pack 102.  You can grab it at her store here.

FTU png mask 94 by Vivienne.  Thank you for your fantastic masks.
You can download it from her blog here.

Please remember to read the artists/designers TOU.

Font of choice for your name.

Plug in: None

Drop shadow of choice.

Vivienne's Paintbox has awesome drop shadow settings that I use a lot.  You can find the settings here and check out her awesome tutorials :)

Let's get started.

Remember to save your tag often in case psp crashes.  I always save my tags as a pspimage.  It keeps all the layers and if you make tags for others you will always have the template.

Open a new 800x800 transparent image.  We will resize later.

Flood fill with white.

Drag Vivienne's png mask 94 into PSP.  Copy and past on your working canvas.  Resize 80%.  Select all, float, defloat and add a new raster layer.  Open paper 17, copy and close the original.  Select the new Raster layer. Go to Edit>Past into selections.  Select none and delete the original png mask. Resize another 90% and move to the upper left.

Element 67, resize 50% and move to the top slightly to the left.  Drop shadow.

Drag element 6 into PSP.  Copy and past on your working canvas.  Resize 70% and move to the upper left of the mask. Drop shadow.

Drag element 34 into PSP.  Copy and past on your working canvas.  Resize 50%.  Add a new raster layer and drag it under your frame.  Select the frame layer.  With your magic wand, click in the center of the frame.  Select>modify>expand by 5.  Select the raster layer under the frame.  Open paper 4, copy and close the original.  Standing on the new raster layer, Edit>Past into selections.  Keep selected.
Create another raster layer, open element 39, copy and close the original.  Select the new raster layer, Edit>Past into selections.  Select none.  Go to Adjust>Sharpen.  Drop shadow element 39 and the frame.  Merge the paper layer, element 39 and the frame layer.  Duplicate the merged frame.  Free rotate, 90 degrees to the right.  Drag this layer under element 6 and move to the upper right of the mask.

Drag element 54 into PSP.  Copy and past on your working canvas.  Resize 30% and drop shadow.

Drag element 63 into PSP.  Copy and past on your working canvas.  Resize 30% and drop shadow.

Select element 6 layer.

Drag element 52 into PSP.  Copy and past on your working canvas.  Resize 40% and drop shadow.

Drag element 44 into PSP.  Copy and past on your working canvas.  Resize 60% and drop shadow.

Select the top layer.

Drag element 79 into PSP.  Copy and past on your working canvas.  Resize 70%.

Drag element 82 into PSP.  Copy and past on your working canvas.  Resize 50% and drop shadow.

Drag element 57 into PSP.  Copy and past on your working canvas.  Resize 50% and drop shadow.

Drag element 19 into PSP.  Copy and past on your working canvas.  Resize 40% and drop shadow.

Drag element 36 into PSP.  Copy and past on your working canvas.  Resize 30% and drop shadow.

Drag element 83 into PSP.  Move to the bottom center of the tag.

Drag element 30 into PSP.  Copy and past on your working canvas.  Resize 40%, move to the lower left and drop shadow.

Drag element 8 into PSP.  Copy and past on your working canvas.  Resize 20% and drop shadow.

Drag element 32 into PSP.  Copy and past on your working canvas.  Resize 20% and drop shadow.

Drag element 13 into PSP.  Copy and past on your working canvas.  Resize 10% and drop shadow.

Drag element 29 into PSP.  Copy and past on your working canvas.  Resize 40% and drop shadow.

Drag element 28 into PSP.  Copy and past on your working canvas.  Resize 10% and drop shadow.

Open Mannequin tube in PSP.  Make the layers you want to use visible and hide the other layers.  Go to Edit>Copy Special>Copy merged. and paste into your tag.  Resize 40% and move to the center of the tag.  Do not drop shadow yet.

Please do the following if you are going to animate.  If you are not going to animate then skip to the end to where is says Select the original Tube.

Right click on your tube layer in the layer panel and duplicate.  Standing on the duplicate, go to adjust, blur, gaussian blur set to 3 and click ok.  Now select your original tube layer.  Go to Selections, select all, float, defloat.   Selections, invert.  Select the copy tube layer and hit delete on your keyboard a few times.  Select none.  Now standing on the duplicate blur layer, right click and duplicate again.  Set the top duplicate blend mode to screen and lower the opacity to 30%.  Select the original duplicate blur layer and sent the blend mode to soft light and lower the opacity to 40%.  Select the original tube layer and drop shadow.

When I animate a tag, I normally duplicate my tube x2 to help reduce the grainy look on the finished tag.

Drag element 75 into PSP.  Copy and past on your working canvas.  Resize 20% and drop shadow.

Drag element 56 into PSP.  Copy and past on your working canvas.  Resize 15%, mirror and drop shadow.

Drag element 45 into PSP.  Copy and past on your working canvas.  Resize 30% and drop shadow.

Drag element 42 into PSP.  Copy and past on your working canvas.  Resize 15% and drop shadow.

Drag element 37 into PSP.  Copy and past on your working canvas.  Resize 15% and drop shadow.

Drag element 18 into PSP.  Copy and past on your working canvas.  Resize 15% and drop shadow.

Make an adjustments needed.

Hide the white background layer.

Select your crop tool on the left side tool bar.

On the top crop toolbar settings select the last icon on the right.  (Merge opaque) and adjust the cropping box to a size you like and make sure it does not cut off any of the elements.  Click the green checkmark.

I resize mine to 650 pixels on the width as this is the size that fits on my blog nicely.

Add your copyright.  (please read Kiya's TOU on how to use her copyright credits.)

If you don't want to animate, hide the white background layer.  go to File, Export, PNG optimizer.   Check out Vivienne's Paintbox how to's for the png settings.

Animation:

I prefer to use the PSD instead of the MNG file as you can manipulate the animation more in PSP.  You can apply masks, drop shadows or different effects.

Open Kiya's 298.psd animation in psp.  Shift + D to duplicate it and close the original.  Do not save any changes as a psd file will merge into one layer.  We do not want this to happen.

We need to group all the layers you are going to use in the tag.  Starting from layer 1, hold down your Ctrl key and select layer 3.  Repeat selecting each odd layer until you reach layer 25.   This will select the layers we need.  Once all the layers are selected (the layers will be highlighted in blue) we need to group them.  All layers selected?

Go to Layers, New layer group.  Scroll all the way to the top and you will see Group 1 with all the layers as sub layers.

Select group 1, copy and close the original.  Select your tag layer and paste.  When you paste grouped layers it will always go to the top.  Standing on group one select the link icon to link all the layer.  Click the arrow beside the new group to hide all the sub layers.

Standing on Group 1, drag the group down the layer panel to a spot you like.  I dragged it up to just above the sparkle layer.  Resize by 50%.  Select the pick tool and standing on Group 1, move the group so it is just behind the tube.  Hide all the sub layers of the animation by clicking on the eyeball leaving only frame 1 visible.

Ok we are now finished our tag and ready to animate.

Open Animation shop and go back to psp.

With only frame 1 of the animations visible, edit, copy special, copy merged.

Back to Animation shop.

Edit, paste as new animation or keyboard shortcut Ctrl+V.

**Back to psp.
Hide Frame 1 by clicking on the eyeball and unhide frame 3 by clicking on the eyeball. Edit, copy special, copy merged.

Back to Animation Shop.

We need to paste after current frame.  Go to edit, paste after current frame.  Keyboard shortcut  Shift+Ctrl+L**

Repeat from **to** until you have 13 frames in animation shop.  It will tell you on the bottom right corner how many frames you have.

Select all the frames in animation shop.  Go to animation>Frame properties and set it to 15.

Go to file Save as, gif and click next and next until you hit finished.  I use the default settings.

I hope you have enjoyed my tutorial.  I would love to see your results.

Have Fun!!
